Introducing The Freddie Porter Orchestra — A Night on the Town

I've been working on a new project called The Freddie Porter Orchestra, and today the first album, A Night on the Town, is out.

TFPO is a production project built around a simple idea: taking familiar songs and reimagining them through big band, swing, soul and orchestral pop. Rather than trying to reproduce the original records, the idea is to treat the songs as raw material for new arrangements — changing the instrumentation, feel and sometimes the entire context while keeping the thing that made the song work in the first place.

A Night on the Town is the first full-length result.

I've produced and developed the project, combining traditional arranging and production techniques with some of the newer tools that have become part of my workflow. As with most things I make, the interesting part for me isn't the technology itself; it's deciding what stays, what changes and what the finished record should actually sound like.

The Freddie Porter Orchestra will be an ongoing project rather than a one-off album, so there will be more releases to come.

For now, though, it's time for our first night on the town.
